TO THE CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS OF THE
PUBLIC HEALTH COMMITTEE
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Report for 1940 has been curtailed
as far as possible and has been duplicated as a measure
of economy.
The year is notable for the maintenance
of a high standard of health in spite of the abnormal
conditions of night shelter life during the last three
months. Thus a comparison of the vital statistics with
those of the whole country and with any portion thereof is
very favourable to Walthamstow.
Diphtheria immunisation was resumed in
the schools and a new low record of Diphtheria incidence
is to be noted.
Public Health Services have been
maintained as near the normal as possible in spite of the
large amount of time and energy given by many members of the
Staff to Civil Defence duties.
It is again my pleasure to record your
kindly consideration and the good work of the Staff.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient servant,
A.T.W.POWELL,
Medical Officer of Health.
