To the Chairman and Members
of the
Walthamstow Education Committee
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to present herewith a report upon the work of the School
Medical Department for the year 1939.
After the outbreak of war in September, 1939, every effort was
made to curtail the services as little as possible and the maximum
number of staff was sent to the reception areas where they did
excellent work.
The nutritional findings showed a continued improvement,
and less uncleanliness was found.
It was not possible to continue diphtheria immunisation in
the schools after the outbreak of war.
I have again to acknowledge your encouragement, the cooperation
of my colleagues in other Departments, and the loyalty
and help of those in my own.
I have the honour to be
Your obedient servant.
A. T. W. POWELL,
School Medical Officer.
