(d) Training of Pupil Midwives.—The Hospital is approved by
the Central Midwives Board, jointly with the Middlesex Hospital,
for the training of pupil midwives in both Part I and Part II of
the training under the new rules.
During 1939, 13 pupils from Thorpe Coombe obtained the
Part I Certificate of the Central Midwives Board.
The following clinical report has been compiled by Dr. Helen
Rodway, M.R.C.O.G., Resident Obstetrician.
THORPE COOMBE MATERNITY HOSPITAL.
CLINICAL REPORT.
During the year there were 675 admissions to the Hospital, 595
confinements, 6,483 attendances at the Ante-Natal Clinic and 556
at the Post-Natal Clinic.
In September, at the outbreak of war, the Hospital was partly
cleared temporarily in preparation for any special war-time
function for which it might be required. Owing to t'he evacuation
of expectant mothers, there was, for several months, a considerable
decrease in admissions and future bookings, but by the end of the
year, the bookings were only ten less than in December, 1938.
An unabridged statistical and clinical report had, as usual,
been compiled, but will not be printed in detail this year. Typewritten
copies will be filed and made available for reference. A
general outline of the work of the Hospital is given below:—

(а) for confinement 552
(b) ante-natal *119
(c) miscarriage —
