ABORTION.
Circular 1661.—The number of cases in which medical aid
notices were issued during 1939 by midwives in accordance with
Rule E of the Central Midwives Board was:—

The cause of death was prematurity.
MATERNAL MORTALITY.
During 1939, six deaths associated however slightly with
pregnancy and child-bearing were investigated for the completion
of enquiry forms.
Particulars relating to the six deaths are given in the
accompanying table.
The following table shows the maternal mortality rates for 1939 (calculated on the two deaths assigned by the Registrar-General to Headings 29 and 30).
