At the end of 1938 a total of 4,875 immunised persons then under 15 years of age, for whom information was available, showed the following age analysis :—

Up to the end of 1938, approximately 18.4 per cent. of the
estimated number of children under 15 years had been protected,
and 1,496 children under 5 years of age had been immunised out
of an approximate total of 8,445 registered live births during the
previous 5 years, i.e., 17.7 per cent.
Immunisation by General Practitioners.—Diphtheria prophylactic
is available to general practitioners. During 1938,
29 c.cs. of alum precipitated toxoid were issued: this quantity is
sufficient to protect 29 children.
Scarlet Fever Immunisation.—Dick tests for scarlet fever:—
Positive, 26; Negative, 156; Doubtful, 18. Total 200.
The above were done at a children's residential institution,
73 children were given a prophylactic dose of scarlet fever antitoxin.
During the year 30 resident children were removed to Hospital
for scarlet fever and 18 further cases from the attached day school.
The prevalent type of streptococcus pyogenes was Type 27.
