Follow-up of Single Dose A .P.T. Immunisation Cases.—In view
of the unreliability of the single dose method, invitations were
sent to the parents of all children immunised with one dose A.P.T.
to have them Schick tested.
1.240 invitations were sent, 546 responded and 42 were found
to have relapsed, i.e. 7.6 per cent.
All these cases were given a further dose.
Follow-up of Double Dose A.P.T. Immunisation.—During the
current year (1939) Schick testing is being done in cases given two
doses A.P.T. eighteen to twenty-four months previously. There
appears to be a considerable loss of immunity, as shown by the
number of positive results obtained.
Diphtheria and Vincents Angina.—From one institution
during the year nine cases notified as diphtheria were removed,
but four proved to be Vincent's Angina.
In addition there were at least 10 cases of oral angina, mostly
amongst children in the nursery school section. A special dental
inspection at the time showed 12 cases of gingivitis which is probably
a precursor of the angina.
Diphtheria in Immunised Children.—No definite case occurred.
Birthday Letters.—Beginning on 21st October, 1938, letters
were sent to the parents of all infants following their first birthday
and stressing the need for protection against diphtheria. 278 letters
were issued and 35 infants were brought and protected. 23 infants
had left the district.
