The Milk and Dairies Order, 1926.
Much attention was again directed to this Order during the
year with a view to minimising the risk of contamination, infection
and adulteration of the milk supply of the town.
The Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936.
The number of licences granted for the Sale of Milk under
Special Designations classified in the above Order was as follows:—
Dealers' Licences.
In respect of:—
Pasteurised Milk 37
Tuberculin Tested Milk 17
Supplementary Licences.
Pasteurised Milk 3
Bottling Licences.
In respect of Tuberculin Tested Milk, 2; Pasteurised Milk, 3.
Ice Cream.
Under the requirements of the Essex County Council Act, 1933,
all Ice Cream Vendors or Manufacturers in the Town must be
registered.
In this connection, of the 53 applicants for such registration,
the Council refused to register 5. There have been no appeals.
Two vendors were convicted for selling ice cream after the
Council had refused to register them.
Twelve samples of ice cream were taken and submitted for
bacteriological examination. In addition four samples were sent
for chemical analyses.
The chemical analyses of two showed the material to be of
poor quality. The bacterial contents were mostly satisfactory.
(6) Meat and other Food.
During the year 1,771 animals intended for human consumption
were slaughtered in the town.
Every animal was inspected at time of slaughter and for this
purpose 307 visits were paid to the slaughterhouses.
It has not always been possible to make ante-mortem inspections
but in those instances where such were carried out no untoward
symptoms were discerned.
