sufficient time for all the treatment, she is instructed to return
afterwards for completion.
"Among the number who receive treatment, very few are
nursing mothers. Since treatment is available for nine months
after childbirth, it is to be regretted that so few avail themselves
of treatment.
"Since the extension of the period during which dentures are
available together with the reduced scale of fees for prosthetic
work, there is a very greatly added inducement to accept treatment
at the clinic. The extraction of teeth still holds the chief place in
the mind of the average patient, to whom the tooth drawer and
denture fitter sums the whole profession, resulting in the loss of so
many natural dentitions.
"The anxiety of the patient with an early caries with the
"I'd rather it out" plea, shows how necessary it is to educate
people to value their own organs. They do not realise the difference
in value to themselves, between natural teeth and artificial,
until the loss of the former brings them to accept the latter.
"The ideal of providing a healthy oral condition for every
mother is still a long way off.''
(c) Tonsils and Adenoids.—Six cases were operated on
under the arrangement made by the Education Committee with the
Connaught Hospital.
(d) Ophthalmic Defects and Minor Ailments.—Children
are given treatment either at the School Clinics or by special
appointment.
(e) Sunlight.—One infant and one mother were referred
for sunlight treatment during 1937. There was definite improvement
recorded in both of the cases.
(f) Child Guidance.—Arrangements have now been made for
children under five years of age to be referred to the London Child
Guidance Clinic.
(g) Invalid Children's Aid Association.—Miss Lewis, Secretary
to the local branch of the Invalid Children's Aid Association,
