The cases of diphtheria were classified as follows :—
Twelve patients were regarded as dangerously ill Nine of
these were given 30,000 units of ADS intravenously in addition to
the appropriate intramuscular dose This group included one case
of hemorrhagic diphtheria In all these cases some degree of nasal
infection accompanied the faucial lesion Laryngeal diphtheria
(3), severe fauoial (11), mild faucial (72), mild nasal (10), bacteriological
diphtheria (50)
Complications—Complete paralysis of the lower limbs, 2
In all oases classified as dangerously ill and as severe a considerable
amount of paresis of the lower limbs followed :—
Palatal paresis, 8; paralysis of rectus externus oculi, 1; and
paralysis of ciliary muscle, 5
