The Milk and Dairies Order, 1926.
Much attention was again directed to this Order during the
year with a view to minimising the risk of contamination, infection
and adulteration of the milk supply of the town.
The Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936
The number of licences granted for the Sale of Milk under
Special Designations classified in the above Order was as follows :—
Dealers' Licences.
In respect of:—
Pasteurised Milk 24
Tuberculin Tested Milk 11
Bottling Licences.
In respect of Tuberculin Tested Milk, 2; Pasteurised Milk, 3.
(6) Ice Cream.
Under the requirements of the Essex County Council Act, 1933,
all Ice Cream Vendors or Manufacturers in the Town must be
registered.
In this connection, of the 48 applicants for such registration,
the Council refused to register 7. There have been no appeals.
(c) Meat and other Food.
During the year 3,853 animals intended for human consumption
were slaughtered in the town.
Every animal was inspected at time of slaughter and for this
purpose 494 visits were paid to the slaughterhouses.
It has not always been possible to make ante-mortem inspections
but in those instances where such were carried out no untoward
symptoms were discerned.
There are 96 butchers' premises in the town and 610 inspections
of these were made. At one such establishment a pig's pluck affected
with tuberculosis was discovered, seized, and condemned. Despite
the plea of not guilty the butcher was fined £5 and costs at Stratford
Police Court for this offence.
No application for meat marking under Part III of the Public
Health Meat Regulations has been received from traders.
