"Operations and, Treatments.—During 1937, 968 major
operations and 3,017 minor operations were performed, making a
total of 3,985. 18,607 radiographs were taken. There were
12,853 massage treatments, also 22,878 electrical treatments, 31
special treatments and 3,513 artificial sunlight treatments at the
Comely Bank Clinio; a total of 39,275 treatments at this Clinic."
Venereal Disease Treatment.
Treatment is provided by the Essex County Council, and all
the facilities of the London County Council are available.
Outfits for taking specimens from patients are provided for
practitioners, on request, by the Whitechapel (London County
Council) Clinic.
Essex Public Medical Service.
The above service brings to its members benefits roughly
analogous to those of the National Health Insurance Act.
Twenty-two of the medical practitioners of the Borough accept
patients under the scheme.
Public Assistance.
Out-relief and institutional treatment is provided by the
Essex County Council.

Mr. Pegram, Clerk to the Essex County Council South-Western Area Guardian's Committee, kindly states that the amount of relief provided in Walthamstow during the two vears ended 31st December. 1937. was as follows: —

"The reduction in the cost and numbers during 1937, as compared
with previous years, is accounted for by the transfer of the
cases of unemployed persons and their dependents to the Unemployment
Assistance Board in April, 1937."
