Circular 1661.—The number of cases in which medical aid
notices were issued during 1937 by midwives in accordance with
Rule E of the Central Midwives Board was:—

MATERNAL MORTALITY.
During 1937, nine deaths associated with pregnancy and childbearing
were investigated for the completion of enquiry forms ; one
belonged to another area and is therefore excluded and two others
are assigned by the Registrar-General to other associated causes.
Particulars relating to the nine deaths are given in the accompanying
table.

The following table shows the maternal mortality rates for 1937 (calculated on six deaths):—
