(xi) Maternity and Nursing Homes.—The total registered
accommodation available in the Borough at the end of 1934 was
as given in the 1933 Report.
With the opening of the Municipal Maternity Home at Thorpe
Coombe, the total number of maternity beds available in the town
was raised from 29 to 68.
The following table gives information required by the
Ministry of Health:—
1. Number of applications for registration
(for additional beds) Nil.
2. Number of Houses registered Nil.
3. Number of Orders made refusing or
cancelling registration Nil.
4. Number of appeals against such Orders Nil.
5. Number of cases in which such Orders
have been made:—
(a) Confirmed on appeal Nil.
(b) Disallowed Nil.
6. Number of applications for exemption
from registration Nil.
7. Number of cases in which exemption
has been:—
(a) Granted Nil.
(b) Withdrawn Nil.
(c) Refused Nil.
Periodical quarterly inspections are made to each Home, in
addition to any visits necessary for special inquiries.
C. SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
Water.—New mains have been installed in the following
roads: Cecil Road, Holly Crescent, Forest Road (by Hale End
Road), Belle Vue Road, Forest Glade, Hillcrest Road, Staffa Road
(Lea Bridge Factory Estate), Forest Rise, Tamworth Avenue,
Sutherland Road, Church Avenue, Yerulam Avenue.
The supply is provided by the Metropolitan Water Board and
has been entirely satisfactory in quality and quantity. No action
has been necessary in respect of any form of contamination.
Rivers and Streams.—Periodical cleaning of the Dagenham
Brook was carried out to the requirement of the Essex Sewers
Commissioners.
