The total number of deaths in 1934 (1,393) compares with
1,357 during 1933, the respective death-rates per 1,000 population
being 10.3 and 10.0.
The main classification of deaths—those for 1933 being given
in parentheses—was as follows:—
Whooping Cough, 2 (7); Diphtheria, 8 (7); Pulmonary
Tuberculosis, 83 (89); Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis, 15 (11);
Cancer, 217 (187); Cerebral Haemorrhage, 56 (75); Heart Disease,
311 (264); Bronchitis, 58 (62); Nephritis, 43 (33); Congenital
Debility, etc., 39 (48); Suicide, 22 (21); Violence, 34 (40).
Infant deaths are analysed by causes, ages and wards under
the Maternity and Child Welfare Section of the Report.
