The death rate from Diarrhoea and Enteritis in children under
1 year of age per 1,000 live births was 7.1.
4. CHILD WELFARE.
The general arrangements for Child Welfare were fully detailed
in the 1930 Report.
(a) Municipal Scheme.— The arrangement with the Woodford
Urban District Council with regard to the health visiting
in the Woodford Side area was terminated in May, 1933 by the
Woodford Authority. An additional Health Visitor was appointed
in order to cope with the work and to assist at the new Welfare
and Ante-Natal sessions which had been commenced during the
year.
U]p to the cancellation of the Woodford arrangement the
Woodford Health Visitor had paid 16 first visits to children under
1 year of age and 113 subsequent visits; and 139 visits to children
between 1 and 5 years of age, a total of 268 visits.
The equivalent of whole time Municipal Health Visitors now
is 6.5, equal to one whole time Health Visitor per 225 notified
births and one whole time Health Visitor per 257 registered births
during 1933.
During the year the Higham Hill Centre was transferred from
rented premises to the former Estate Office in Guildsway. The
premises, consisting of a large waiting room, a weighing room
and a consulting room, were adapted, redecorated and furnished
at a cost of approximately £200 and have proved to be a very
great improvement on the premises previously used. An additional
weighing session was commenced soon after moving into the
new premises.
