logical work is carried out partly at the Hospital, and partly at
other Institutions.
Operations and Treatments.— During 1933 , 742 major,
and 2,893 minor operations were performed, making a total of
3,635. 8,712 radiographs were taken, and 206 X-ray treatments
given. There were 9,107 massage treatments, also 9,801 electrical
treatments, and 2,878 artificial sunlight treatments at
Comely Bank Annexe.
Extensions.—During the year the complement of beds was
increased from 100 to 116 owing to the generosity of Alderman
A. M. Mathews, J.P., E.C.C., who provided funds for a new
Ward.
In addition, a new Massage Department was built at the
Comely Bank Clinic with money kindly placed at the disposal of
the hospital by Mrs. J. K. Keene in memory of her husband.
The Hospital provides, at an annual retaining fee of thirty
guineas, the use of three beds when required for your Council's
Enteric cases, and further admissions up to two per ward at the
discretion of the Hospital Authorities.
Venereal Disease Treatment.
Treatment is provided by the Essex County Council, and all
the facilities of the London County Council are available. Daily
treatment is available between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. at the following:

Turner Street, Mile End. Miller General Hospital, Greenwich,
St. George's Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital, Endell Street,

available at special times at eleven other hospitals.
Outfits for taking specimens from patients are provided for

Essex Public Medical Service.
The above Service, now some ten years old, brings to its
members benefits roughly analogous to those of the National
Health Insurance Act.
About twenty of the Medical Practitioners of the Borough
are members of the scheme, and the Secretary kindly informs me
that there are approximately 2,833 Walthamstow subscribers.
