The tables referred to under the various sub-headings are given
at the end of this section.
(a) Population.
The Report for 1931 stated that, according to the Preliminary
Report of the Census, Walthamstow ranked 35th on the list of 113
towns in England and Wales with a population of over 50,000.
As in 1921, Walthamstow remained the third largest town in
Essex, and was, on Census night, the most populous non-County
Borough in England and Wales.
The Census population has now been amended to 132,972, an
increase of 7 on the former figure.
Table 2 shows that this figure represents an increase of 3,577,
or 2.8 per cent. over the 1921 population.
(b) Usual Residence.
Table 6, a novel feature of the 1931 Census, gives experimental
data as to residence and also provides material for use in
connection with Exchequer grants under the Local Government
Act, 1929.
(c) Parliamentary Constituencies.
Table 7 gives particulars of the electors in the East and
West Divisions of Walthamstow.
(d) Dwellings, Rooms and Families.
The principal results of the Census are set out in Tables 10
and 11.
