In order to focus attention on the death rate from measles a table has been prepared showing the death rate per 1,000 live births every year between 1901 and 1932 and a five-yearly average is shown:—

From the five-yearly average it will be seen that there is a
definite decline in the measles mortality rate—a finding in close
agreement with that of other areas for which statistics have been
published.
WHOOPING COUGH.
Whooping Cough was not notifiable during 1932 but 282 school
cases were notified by Head Teachers. The total number of deaths
was 3, or a mortality of 1.06 per 100 cases. No requests for Hospital
removal were received, and it must again be stressed, as with
Measles, that the seriousness of this disease is not sufficiently
appreciated.
