15. MATERNAL MORTALITY.
Maternal mortality inquiry forms have been completed for the
Ministry of Health in each case where the certified cause of death
showed any connection with recent childbirth. Thus, during 1932,
10 inquiry forms were completed and details are given in the
accompanying table. In addition, two other deaths occurring after
recent childbirth were due to other causes.
The Registrar-General, under the "Rules for the selection of
one from two or more jointly stated causes of death" allocated
2 deaths to puerperal sepsis and 6 to other puerperal causes. The
rates per 1,000 are, therefore, calculated on this figure.
Following the publication of the Final Report of the Departmental
Committee on Maternal Mortality and Morbidity an extract
was made from the Summary of Recommendations made and copies
of this were circularised to all medical practitioners in the area.
A note was added to the effect that every service specified in the
Report was provided by your Council.
The following table shows the position with regard to Maternal
Mortality compared with that for England and Wales:—
