9. HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION FOR
CONFINEMENTS.

The following numbers of confinements occurred at the Institutions specified:—

Mothers' Hospital, Clapton208

Forest Gate Hospital96
Queen Mary's Hospital30
Total487

Of the 153 confinements in Walthamstow Nursing Homes, 96
resided in the area and 57 outside the area.
There are five Nursing Homes in the Borough with a total
maximum accommodation of 29 beds for maternity cases.
10. WALTHAMSTOW DISTRICT NURSING
ASSOCIATION.
The Association has continued its successful work during 1932.
At the end of the year the Staff consisted of six State Registered
Nurses holding the Certificate of the Central Midwives Board, and
one Maternity Nurse. The Nursing Home was registered for 11
maternity beds at the end of the year and in order to allow this
expansion from the 4 beds provided in 1931 and to accommodate
the additional staff, additional premises were acquired at No. 17,
Carisbrooke Road.
Sister Ross reports that during 1932, 163 District midwifery
cases were attended, and 57 District maternity cases. Fifty-six
patients were confined in the Home as midwives' cases and a further
10 as Doctors' cases. 646 general nursing cases were dealt with on
the District, involving 6,071 visits.
Your Council continued to pay a retaining fee of ten guineas
per annum for the services of a Nurse in cases of Puerperal Fever
and Pyrexia or in case of emergency midwifery. In addition,
tramway discount tickets to the value of £10 16s. were provided
during the year.
11. CONSULTANT OBSTETRICIAN.
During 1932 the services of the panel of Consultants under the
Puerperal Fever and Pyrexia Regulations (referred to earlier in
the Report) were made available to Practitioners in any difficulty
arising during pregnancy, labour or the puerperium.
Consultants' services were provided on six occasions.
