Two small localised outbreaks, one of 11 cases at Blackhorse
Road Girls' School in July, and one of 8 cases at Coppermill Road
Junior School in December, both of nasal type, were controlled by
repeated "class" inspections and the swabbing of all suspects.
The percentage of cases removed to Hospital increased to 93.5,
a figure higher than any since 1926. During 1931 no cases were
refused admission. Three cases of Diphtheria were notified 4, 10
and 4 days after tonsillectomy. Eleven deaths were due to
Diphtheria, representing a death rate of 0.08 per 1,000 population.
