The 1931 total deaths (1,403) compares with 1,160 during 1930,
the respective death-rates per 1,000 population being 10.4 and 9.3.
The chief differences in the classification of deaths—-those for
1930 being given in parentheses—were as follows:—
Whooping Cough, 14 (2); Diphtheria, 11 (22); Pulmonary
Tuberculosis, 95 (80); Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis, 13 (9);
Cancer, 176 (167); Cerebral Haemorrhage, 83 (51); Heart Disease,
313 (224); Bronchitis, 86 (42); Nephritis, 44 (37); Congenital
Debility, etc., 58 (45); Suicide, 31 (14); Violence, 40 (34).
Infant deaths are analysed by causes, ages and wards under
the Maternity and Child Welfare Section of the Report.
