Between 30th December, 1930, and 21st December, 1931, a
total of £312,872 was paid out in benefits, two-thirds of this amount
(approximately representing the Walthamstow proportion) being
£208,580.
The corresponding figures for 1930 were £117,935 and £78,623
respectively and the very large increases during 1931 plainly show
the increased unemployment with its consequent menace to the
public health.

in the 1930 Report, the North Walthamstow Sports Ground was
purchased during the year by the Education Authority, a loan of
£2,700 being raised for the purpose.
A further loan of £1,887 was sanctioned for the provision of
children's playground equipment at Lloyd and St. James' Parks
and at the Higham Hill, Queens Road and Selborne Road Recreation
Grounds and Chestnuts Farm. The equipment included slides,
ocean waves, rowing pendulum swings, whirling platforms and cradle
swings.
