16. MATERNAL MORTALITY.
Maternal mortality inquiry forms have been completed for the
Ministry of Health in each case where the certified cause of death
showed any connection with recent childbirth. Thus, during 1931,
four inquiry forms were completed and full details are given in the
accompanying table. All four deaths occurred in Institutions—
one each at four different Institutions outside the area. One of the
confinements took place in Walthamstow, the patient being moved
to Hospital subsequently.
The Registrar-General, however, under the "Rules for the
selection of one from two or more jointly stated causes of death,"
only allocated one death to puerperal causes. The rates per 1,000
are therefore calculated on this figure.
