Of the three cases treated in Hospital, two occurred at the Mothers'
Hospital, Clapton, while the other was admitted under your Council's
scheme to St. Margaret's Hospital (London County Council) for one
month.
The disease has been of a mild character generally, but it is felt
that Midwives are still too reluctant to call in medical aid (as required
by the Rules of the Central Midwives Board) for all cases of discharging
eyes, however slight.
If necessary, treatment is given either at home or at the Clinics
by your Council's Medical Officers and Health Visitors.
15. MATERNAL MORTALITY.
Six cases died from Puerperal Sepsis and three cases from other
accidents and diseases of pregnancy and parturition. Seven Maternal
Mortality inquiry forms were completed in respect of these deaths
and were sent to the Ministry of Health.
Of the eight deaths recorded under the Puerperal Fever and
Pyrexia section of the report, two, being non-residents, are excluded.
The table facing this page gives particulars of maternal deaths,
those from puerperal sepsis being also included in the table given
under the Puerperal Fever and Pyrexia section.
