joined us in September when additional psychiatric sessions were
granted. Additional child therapy sessions have been authorised and
we hope shortly to appoint another therapist.
Our waiting list has been reduced from 123 last year to 49 at the
end of 1953 and our increased staff has enabled us to reduce the length
of time between referral and diagnostic interview very considerably.
It is essential in our work that adequate and detailed records
should be kept, but we have been seriously understaffed on the secretarial
side so that much skilled time has been lost in writing notes and
reports in longhand We have been granted an additional clerk on a
temporary basis and hope this will be made a permanent appointment
in order to maintain the efficient running of the Clinic."

Employment of School-children and Young Persons.—From
special inquiries made at the various schools during 1953, it was found
that 157 children were employed out of school hours. 154 children were
submitted for medical examination in accordance with the Byelaws made
under Part II of the Children and Young Persons Act. 1933. with the
following result: —
