Almost the only sphere where we can report a diminution of our
activities is in the School Minor Ailment Clinics. This is undoubtedly due
to the fact that diseases such as scabies, impetigo, pediculosis, and running
ears, have greatly diminished and, of course, any child can now attend his
own doctor.
Reports of specialists and other officers will be found in the body of
the report.
Again I cannot conclude without thanking those whose invaluable help
has made my work easier. The Ilford Federation of Women's Voluntary
Welfare Workers, who work in our Infant Welfare Centres; the Ilford
Social Service Association, who arrange chiropody for pensioners, sickroom
equipment, night attendants, holidays for old people, services that this
Department is much interested in, and I deem it a privilege to be associated
with the I.S.S.A. in this work. Over the past year or two the W.V.S. have
been increasingly helpful, and look to us and we to them, for mutual
assistance.
The staff have given their usual loyal and efficient service, which is all
the more appreciated when new ventures, such as the distribution of welfare
foods, have to be undertaken. I must also mention the full co-operation
of the Chief Officers and their staffs in other Departments, for which I am
very grateful.
Finally, I would like to express my thanks to the members of the
Council, especially to the Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen and Members of the
Committees and Sub-Committees of the Ilford Borough Council and
Essex County Council with whom I work.
I have the honour to be
Your obedient servant,
I. GORDON,
Medical Officer of Health.
