Dr. J. Kennedy the Ophthalmic Surgeon, reports on squint cases in
general as follows :—
" During the last three months of the year, it was found that a
large number of children suffering from various forms of squint were
very much in need of orthoptic treatment. This had in many cases
been carried out at the orthoptic Clinic at Walthamstow, but in addition
to the fact that no more cases from Ilford could be taken at this Clinic,
there were many which had had to be passed over in favour of those
more urgently in need.
Some of the worst cases have been taken on for treatment at
Moorfield's and other Hospitals in London, but it is economically
impossible for many parents to undertake a weekly journey to London
with its cost and loss of working hours.
I very much hope that it will be possible to make the establishment
of a whole-time Orthoptic Clinic in Ilford an urgent priority."
A room in the Mayesbrook Clinic has been set aside for an Orthoptic
Clinic and the Essex County Council are now negotiating for the purchase of
equipment.
