1. Rainfail.
Total rainfall registered in the district during the year was 18.77 inches,
the greatest fall in 24 hours was registered on 27th June, being 1.3 inches.
The fall of longest duration was on the 29th March—12.7 hours. March was
the wettest month.
2. Population.
The number of patients and resident staff on the 30th June, 1947, at the
following public institutions, was:—

Australasian Hospital (Girls' Village Homes) 47
Total 3,718
3. Births.
The number of births registered during the year was 3,368.

i.e. 3.3 percent. of the births registered were illegitimate.
*The percentage of illegitimate births registered in the previous 10 years
was : 3.1; 5.5; 4.2; 3.4; 3.5; 3.3; 2.5; 2.2; 2.4; 2.7.
The birth-rate, calculated on the net estimate of the population is 19.1
per 1,000.
4. Deaths.
The total number of deaths of Ilford residents was 1,739. This is obtained
by taking the total deaths registered in the district (1,547), subtracting the
deaths of non-residents occurring in the district (285), and adding the deaths
of Ilford residents registered as having died in other districts (477).
The number of deaths of non-residents registered in the district (principally
in large institutions) was as follows:—
