On 24th December, a notification of suspected Swine Fever was received,
and subsequently confirmed by the Ministry. Six pigs died, the remaining
9 pigs from this sty were removed for slaughter on 28th December.
(iii) Regulation of Movement of Swine Order, 1922-1926.—
11 Licences were issued for the removal of 33 pigs from the Borough,
and 3 Licences were countersigned for the entry into the Borough of 22 pigs.
(iv) Parasitic Mange Order, 1938.—One case of suspected Parasitic
Mange was reported, but it was not confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture
and Fisheries.
(v) Rabies Order, 1938.—One dog was admitted into the Borough
under authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The regulations
respecting isolation were complied with.
(vi) Sheep Scab Orders and Amendment Orders, 1928, 1930, 1934 and
1934 (No. 2).—There has been no occasion for this Borough to be made into a
"double-dipping" area under these Orders during the year 1945. The only
sheep in the borough, at a large farm and a public Institution, have been
double-dipped unofficially by the owners.
Rats and Mice Destruction Act, 1919.—196 complaints have been
received of the existence of rats affecting 205 premises. In 13 of these
cases poison gas has been used, and in the remaining cases other steps have
been taken.
Petroleum (Consolidation) Act, 1928.—The Sanitary Inspectors
made 406 visits to premises where petroleum is stored, or in conjunction
with the installation of such storage, and tested 2 petroleum appliances
or fittings.
The number of Licences issued was 104, and the fees paid to the
Council for such Licences was £76 15s. Od. Two Licences were issued for the
storage of calcium-carbide, the fees payable being 15s.
