OTHER MATERNITY HOSPITALS.
(а) Oldchurch County Hospital.— 71 cases were admitted to Oldchurch
County Hospital during 1944. The fee payable to the Essex County
Council is at the rate of 14/- per day.
By arrangement, all Ilford cases found to be normal at the first antenatal
examination at the Oldchurch Hospital Clinic are referred to the
Ilford Ante-Natal Clinics for further examinations until the 36th week of
pregnancy. The cases are then referred to the Oldchurch Hospital Clinic
again and if still normal are referred again to the Ilford Clinics for examination
until the date due for confinement. If any abnormality develops
whilst under supervision at the Ilford Clinics the cases are referred to the
Oldchurch Hospital Clinic.
48 cases were examined at the Council's Ante-Natal Clinics during
1944, making a total of 143 attendances. These figures are included in
the table of attendances at the ante-natal clinics.
As mentioned in my Report for 1943, the Essex County Council ceased
taking maternity cases from Ilford at the end of June, 1944.
(b) Queen Mary's Hospital, Stratford.—By arrangement 13 cases
were admitted to Queen Mary's Hospital for confinement during 1944. The
fee payable to the Hospital authorities is at the rate of 10s. per day.
(c) East End Maternity Hospital, Stepney.—In May, 1944, the
Secretary of this Hospital informed me that a limited number of maternity
cases from Ilford could be accepted for admission to their Wards at their
Hospital at Stepney, or their Hospital evacuated to Newport Pagnell,
Buckinghamshire, at a charge of 13s. per day.
Two cases were admitted for confinement to the Hospital at Newport
Pagnell during 1944.
(d) Emergency Maternity Homes.—322 mothers who registered for
evacuation under the Government Evacuation Scheme for admission to the
Emergency Maternity Homes in the country for their confinement attended
the Council's Ante-Natal Clinics. There were 1,667 attendances by such
cases. These figures are included in the table of attendances at the AnteNatal
Clinics.
