Of the eases notified, the following table shows the percentage treated in
institutions, including those who were treated in the institutions from which
they were notified :—

(а) Smallpox.—No case of Smallpox occurred. Notification of 45
persons who had been in contact with cases of Smallpox were received.
These were visited by the Sanitary Inspectors for the usual period.
The following gives particulars as to Vaccination during 1944:—

(b) Scarlet Fever.—278 cases were notified in 1944. There were no
deaths from this disease.

(c) Diphtheria.—56 cases were notified in 1944. There were 4 deaths
from Diphtheria during the year, 2 at the Ilford Isolation Hospital, 1 at
the City Hospital, Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent, and 1 at the patients' home
(this case was not notified the cause of death being discovered at postmortem
conducted by H. M. Coroner).
