appointment of an additional Sanitary Inspector, the first
increase in the staff of Sanitary Inspectors for the past 17 years.
This will enable their very important duties, which are being continually
increased by new legislation, to be carried out with a
greater efficiency than has been possible previously.
The extensions at the Isolation Hospital and the new Maternity
Home are nearing completion. Fortunately the very light
incidence of infectious diseases has prevented serious difficulties
arising from the delay in the completion of the Isolation Hospital
building. The members of the staff have given loyal service to
the Council, and I have again to thank them and the Councillors
and the co-opted members of the Committee for the support which
has enabled the varied activities detailed in the report to be carried
out.
I am, Madam and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
A. H. G. BURTON,
Medical Officer of Health.
