There has therefore been an increase in a period of a
year of 1,764 in the gross population (including institutions),
and an increase of 1,716 in the nett population.
There seems to be good reason to predict a substantial
increase in population during the next few years. There is
at present but little empty property in Ilford, and signs are
everywhere manifest of an increased activity in the building
trade.
BIRTHS.
The total number of births registered during 1913 was
1,505 (757 males and 748 females), giving a birth-rate of
19.15 per 1,000.
Of the above, 16 males and 16 females were illegitimate.
As compared with 1912 there was a slight increase in
the number of births, but the rate per 1,000 of population is
lower, and is indeed the lowest yet recorded in this district.
As will be seen from the chart, the drop in the birth-rate in
the last ten years has been very great.
DEATHS.
The total number of deaths registered during 1913 was
1,077.
The total number of deaths registered for the district,
apart from institutions, was 743.
This includes deaths at:—
The Infirmary, Romford 40
The Essex and Colchester Asylum 32
The London Hospital 32
The Children's Hospital, Great Ormond
Street 4
Guy's Hospital 4
