POPULATION.
The Registrar-General's estimate of the total population
of the district for 1913 is 87,040, and deducting the
population of the institutions, leaves a nett population of
83,242 for the district proper (including the 1,461 inhabitants
of the Village Homes, who have now to be counted as belonging
to the district). These institutions are:—
Village Homes 1,461
West Ham Asylum 1,085
Claybury Asylum 2,713
There were:—
At the Census, 1911—
Number of inhabited houses 16,856
Number of uninhabited houses 903
17,759
From the time the Census was taken in 1911 until the
30th June, 1913, there were 676 newly-built houses certified
as completed, which brings the total number of houses in
the district 17,759 + 676 up to 18,435. It was estimated that
there were 500 empty houses in the district on June 30th,
1913, making the total number of occupied houses 17,935.
Now the average population per house at the 1911 Census
was 4.3. Multiplying, therefore, the figure 17,935 by 4.3,
and adding on 1,461, the population of the Village Homes,
we get a true estimate of population for the district on June
30th, 1913, as 78,581. By adding on the population in West
Ham and Claybury Asylums, we get the true gross population,
82,379.
Estimated gross population 82,379
Estimated net population 78,581
