closed for fourteen days, a new labour ward opened, and
strict rules for the carrying out of antiseptic precautions
made.
"We are glad to say that the second period, viz., from
April 12th to December 31st, has been marked by the most
distinct improvement, 162 cases having been admitted with
no maternal death, and, what is more important, the
hygienic condition of the hospital has not been so satisfactory
pince 1881. The total number of children born
during the year was 198, of whom 4 were still-born.
" In the Out-Patient Department 290 mothers were
delivered, and in each instance the result was entirely
satisfactory."
