The marriage-rate, 18'6 per 1,000, is satisfactory, showing
an increase of 3"4 per 1,000 over that of the preceding
year and 3*9 per 1,000 higher than that of the decennial
average.
The marriages in London in the year 1891 numbered
37,298, and the proportion of persons married to the total
population was 17*7 per 1,000, this rate being higher than
in any year since 1883.
In England and Wales the marriages of 452,050 persons
were registered, giving an annual rate of 15'5 per 1,000 of
the estimated population.
