Legislation.
On 1st January, 1892, the Public Health (London) Act
came into operation.
This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to the
public health of the metropolis by repealing sixteen statutes
entirely and some nineteen partially.
This codification is intended to do for London what the
Public Health Act, 1875, did for the rest of the country.
The Act, amongst other important provisions and amendments,
enacts that it will be the duty of the Sanitary
Authority.
(1) To cause to be made from time to time inspection of
their district, so as to secure the proper condition of all
premises.
(2) To enforce bye-laws, which it is the duty of the Local
Government Board, the London County Council, and the
Sanitary Authorities to frame for a variety of purposes.
(3) To carry out the provisions of the Smoke Consumption
Act.
(4) To order the inspection of workshops and bakehouses
for the enforcement of certain provisions relating to them.
