Nuisances Removal Acts.
During the year 13 owners of property in the district
having failed to comply with the Board's orders, have been
proceeded against before the Magistrates, and the necessary
works ordered to be carried out.
Dwellings of the Poor,
A Royal Commission was appointed on the 4th of
March of the present year, to enquire into the housing of
the working classes.
The Commission has already held several sittings.
Telephone Wires.
A Bill was introduced into Parliament by the United
Telephone Company, by which they sought powers to
carry wires for telephonic purposes under and over the
public ways within the Metropolis, and for other purposes.
As the Bill did not propose to reserve to Local Authorities
a power of control over the wires, which had in the case of
telegraph wires been given to them by the various Telegraph
Acts, your Board considered it advisable to oppose the
same, and accordingly lodged a Petition against the Bill.
