Diseases of the Respiratory Organs.
The total deaths from diseases of these important organs during
the year were 322, viz., Bronchitis, 249; Pneumonia, 57; Pleurisy, 8;
Laryngitis, 1; Asthma, 1; and other Lung Diseases (excluding
Phthisis), 6.
Bronchitis continues to be the principal cause, the deaths from it
more than doubled those of any other disease.
Pneumonia carried off 87. Both these diseases occur at the extremes
of age, and the mortality is greater during the winter months,
when cold winds and fogs are prevalent.
