The Death-rate in St. Giles District.
During the year the Deaths Registered in the three Sub-Districts
were as follows:—
St. George, Bloomsbury 252
St. Gilea South 565
St. Giles North 271
Entire District 1088
of which 559 were males, and 529 females.
These numbers must be corrected by deducting the deaths of nonparishioners
who died in the Workhouse, Broad Street; the British
Lying-in-Hospital, Endell Street; and the Infants' Home, 35, Great
Coram Street; and by adding the deaths of parishioners, who died
in the several Public Hospitals and Institutions, situated out of the
District.
The actual number of deaths will be 1196, which gives a death-rate
for the whole District of 22.38 per 1,000, or a ratio of 1 in 44.67 of
population; or nearly the same as in the year 1876, it being then 23.30
per 1,000, and below the decennial average by 2.46 per 1,000.
These corrections will be seen by the following tables:—
