The marriages in the District, during the year 1877, are as under, for which I am indebted to the kindness of the Parochial Clergy, and the Registrar of the District.

There were, therefore, 782 persons married, which gives a marriagerate
of 14'63 per 1,000.
The average rate for the last three years is equal to 14G8 per 1,000.
The Birth-rate in St. Giles District.
During the year the Births Registered in the three Sub-Districts
were as follows:—
St. George, Bloomsbury 429
St. Giles South 805
St. Giles North 420
Entire District 1,654
of which 855 were males, and 799 females.
These numbers will not give an accurate birth-rate, because 105
children born in the British Lying-in-Hospital, Endell Street, and
38 in the Workhouse, Broad Street, were children of non-parishioners
belonging to other parts of the metropolis. Therefore if correction be
made by deducting 143 Births from the Sub-District of St. Giles South,
it reduces the actual number of Births to 1,511, and gives the Birthrate
for the whole District as 28'28 per 1,000, or 1 in 3536 as the
ratio of Births to population, almost identical with the preceding year,
and again below the average.
