52. Underground Rooms.—Convictions have been obtained
during the year against several owners of houses in the District, for
permitting their Underground Rooms to be illegally occupied.
53. Several Underground Tanks have also been abolished,
besides those already referred to in the paragraph relating to private
slaughter-houses.
The continuous improvement in the District has, no doubt,
largely tended to raise the health of our population to its present
standard, which I earnestly hope will be maintained.
I have the honour to be,
Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
1st May, 1874.
GEORGE ROSS, M.D.,
Medical Officer of Health.
