The number of registered blind persons showed a decrease of three over the previous year. The following tables show the age distribution of the blind population registered with the department on 31st December 1969.

The position regarding the four children under 16 on the
register as at 31st December 1969 is as follows:
Three are attending special schools for the blind and partially
sighted, and the remaining child is in a hospital for mentally subnormal
children.
282 persons out of the total of 339 (83 per cent) on the blind
register are over the age of 60. The age at onset of blindness was
