3768 domiciliary visits were made during the year, an increase
of 854 on the previous year. In addition to domiciliary visiting
mental health social workers attended out-patient clinics at Kingston
Hospital on 207 occasions. They also attend case conferences at Long
Grove Hospital.
Hospital Admissions
Kingston and Long Grove hospitals dealt with the majority of
psychiatric patients from the borough. In November 1968 a modern
psychiatric unit and day hospital were opened at Kingston Hospital which
has increased the facilities available for dealing with the mentally ill.
During 1968, 117 cases were admitted to hospital by mental
welfare officers. In 44 instances the procedure was carried out under
the Mental Health Act 1959. As in former years the incidence of
compulsory admission is low. This has been made possible by early
referral, continuity of care and close co-operation between doctors and
mental health social workers.

7 patients were admitted to hospitals by Court Order under
provision of section 60 of the Mental Health Act 1959.
Hostel Accommodation
There is no hostel accommodation in the borough and this has
been provided by arrangement with the Cheshire Foundation, Richmond
Fellowship and Mental After Care Association.

During the year financial responsibility was accepted for hostel accommodation of 6 patients as follows:
