SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE
Chief Dental Officer - Miss Ann Hobley, L.D.S., R.C.S.(Eng.)
(Resigned 15.11.68.)
(D.M.Dodd L.D.S., B.D.S. appointed 6.1.69.)
STAFF
From the beginning of the year until the end of the summer
term, the borough maintained the full establishment of dental officers
with no changes. In the autumn a part time locum dental officer
replaced the two part time staff who left during the summer months at
Gosbury Hill Clinic. Miss Hobley resigned her appointment as chief
dental officer in mid-November, immediately prior to her marriage; and
Mr.Fuller, the senior dental officer, and Mrs.Herd, both resigned at
the 31st December, Mr.Fuller having been appointed to the post of
area dental officer in Buckinghamshire. Mr.Donald Dodd, deputy chief
dental officer of Cheshire, has been appointed to succeed Miss Hobley
and will take up his duties in the new year.
No provision has yet been made for a hygienist to be employed
in the borough, and the part time auxiliary was not replaced when
Mrs. Hibbert left in the autumn.
The staff of dental surgery assistants has remained basically
unchanged during the year, and the dental officers are always
especially grateful for the willing assistance of relief staff during
holidays and times of sickness.
The dental officers continued to have their regular staff
meetings,a considerable amount of time, especially earlier in the year,
being given to the problems of health education. Some meetings were
attended by the surgery assistants who helped in the campaign.
Special discussions were held at certain meetings, following business
matters; these included one on school inspections and another on
orthodontics.
During the late spring a very favourable report was received
from the Ministry of Education and Science, following the inspection
by one of their dental officers, Mr.J.Rodgers, the previous autumn.
The chief dental officer attended the Annual Conference of
the British Dental Association at Brighton, and the senior dental
officer attended a course on Children's Dentistry at the Eastman
Dental Hospital in the spring.
Once again, the professional staff are indebted to both the
Consultant Oral Surgeon, Mr.R.A.Peebles, and the Consultant Orthodontist,
Mr.H.Orton, at Kingston Hospital, for their assistance and co-operation,
and along with this, the staff would like to record their thanks to all
their medical and dental colleagues in the borough.
