Speech Therapy
The work of the speech therapy service has continued
satisfactorily during 1968 in spite of some staff changes.
There was a continued growth in the service during the year, a
total of 492 children receiving treatment as compared with 435
during 1967. Pre-school groups have been started wherever the
demand and clinic facilities allow. These groups are very
valuable in the stimulation of speech and language development
through play methods and it has been found that the young children
respond well to informal treatment at this age, particularly as
there is no established habit factor.
Details of the work undertaken at the centres are shown below, with the 1967 figures for comparison.
