JOINT SURVEY OF PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN FOODSTUFFS.
The Interim Report of the results obtained in the first year
of the National Pesticide Residues Survey in which this Food and
Drugs Authority participated, shows that traces of pesticide
residues were found in a significant number of samples of the
foods examined. The amounts found were generally small and
corresponded with the known use of pesticides on crops.
Whilst it is clearly desirable that amounts of pesticide
residues should be kept as low as practicable, there would appear
to be no short-term hazard associated with the amounts found and
no samples showed gross contamination. It is stressed that the
Report is an interim one and conclusions necessarily tentative.
