The figures indicate the relative causes for action and the
following comments may be of interest.
Cleanliness, Attention was drawn to the occurrence of dampness
in walls and floors and the redecoration of areas to which the
public does not have access such as stock rooms, stores, passageways,
water closets and lobbies.
Overcrowding. Only six cases were recorded during the year.
This low figure may be due to our earlier general inspections when
the attention of occupiers was drawn to the need for compliance
before 1st August, 1967.
Temperature. In most offices and shops the temperature was
maintained at a higher figure than that required by the Act, but
in a few smaller establishments, possibly for reasons of economy,
the heating arrangements were inadequate.
Lighting. Standards of lighting recommended by the
Illuminating Engineering Society were accepted and no difficulty
was experienced in implementing the recommendations.
Sanitary Accommodation. The enforcement of the Sanitary
Conveniences Regulations proceeded satisfactorily.
