ROYAL BOROUGH OF KINGSTON UPON THAMES.
ANNUAL REPORT
OF
THIS CHIEF PUBLIC HEALTH INSPECTOR
1965.
Tel; Elmbridge 5111 Environmental Health Section9
Ext. 203 Health and Welfare Department
Tolworth Tower,
Surbiton0
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames,,
Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the pleasure of reporting upon the work of the Environmental
Health Section of the Department during the first year since the inception
of the new Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
For the first three months of the year the section worked in the
offices of the former Authorities, located at Kingston, Surbiton and Maiden
and it was during this time that the staff of the three Boroughs cooperated
closely in preparation for the amalgamation on the 1st April and
the move to Tolworth Tower was made during the first week of March„ From
that time onwards the staff worked as a team and it is fitting to pay
tribute to the willing co-operation of everyone making the transfer a
smooth operation which, apart from the very severe problems of staff
shortage. was accomplished with little detriment to the service provided
to the general publico
The staff shortages were most keenly felt among the workmen and it
is regretted that it was not possible to maintain all the services of
the three former Boroughs, but by the autumn the difficulties in this
direction had been overcome and it is anticipated that in future the
section will be able to provide a prompt and efficient service to the
ratepayers.
For the whole of the year there has been a shortage of Public
Health Inspectors, but the willing co-operation of the inspectorate has
enabled progress to be made.
